Meet The Team
Program Director
Nadia Rodriguez
Most of my professional career before joining CERC was centered on non-profit public relations. My education is also centered on communication, I have a bachelor’s in journalism, a master’s in public relations, and a Ph.D. in media studies.
It was through my graduate studies that I was first introduced to emergency work, through dissertation research in Haiti during long-term recovery efforts after the devasting 2012 earthquake. The experience led me to more international volunteering which is how I met my husband.
When I’m not at work, you’ll find me hanging out with him, our two kids, and our three dogs.

Humanitarian aid has been an interest of mine since high school when I volunteered with
the California Emergency Response Team (CERT). I value helping people during disasters and
crises, and this passion led me to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in International Political Science.
Utilizing my degree, I worked for a local nonprofit focused on food insecurity throughout LA
County. I wanted to help people prepare for disasters and alleviate the struggles they face
during them. Working with CERC, my desire to support vulnerable communities in my home
state has been fulfilled, and I get to develop relationships with a plethora of wonderfully
passionate organizations and people.
Outside of work, I desire to be outdoors! I love hiking, camping, and swimming in the
ocean. Some personal goals I have include learning to sail and free dive within the next year!

I earned my degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz (Go Banana Slugs!!!), where I developed a wealth of diverse life and work experience. After returning to Los Angeles, I further expanded my professional background across various fields. Eventually, I became part of the CERC 2023-24 fellowship, where I played a pivotal role in outreach initiatives and collaborated closely with my partner site, CORE. During my fellowship, I had the privilege of deploying twice, which reinforced my dedication to the important work we do.
Now, as a Program Coordinator, I'm proud to lead the next cohort of fellows and continue making a meaningful impact through nonprofit work—a passion that drives me every day.
